One of the latest trends in home decor is to use wooden letters with which we can create different words like “Love” “Home” “Joy”… or even the names of our children. There are endless kinds of letters of different sizes and colors, which we can place on a shelf or on the walls as if it were a painting.
Lately, Giving letters with the names of newborns has become a very common gift, for example to hang on the bedroom door of the baby. However, the use that you can give them as a decorative element has no limits, as they can also decor other spaces like the balcony planters or the shelves.
We show you now how to build your own wooden letters made from pallets. This is very easy and fun, perfect for a home project and also as a gift for your friends and relatives, for Christmas, a birthday etc.
To start the materials and tools that you are going to need are: a pallet, a saw, wooden glue, varnish, nails, a plywood board of 45 cm (18 ”) x 45 cm (18 ”), a hammer and a lever or a crowbar.
First we are going to remove the pallet planks with a hammer and a crowbar. Next we’ll take the saw and cut it in half lengthwise all those planks, obtaining narrower and more manageable boards for cutting and pasting them. The boards should have a width now of 6.5 cm (2 1/2 ”).
Next, we are going to take these boards and glue them to the plywood of 45 cm (18 ”) X 45 cm (18 “) like it was a puzzle.
When we have the material ready, we will choose the letter that we want to create. It is as simple as selecting a character from a Word document and print it with a larger size. In our case we have selected the font Arial Black. Then we went to a copy shop and asked to print the character “W” with a size of 40 cm (16 ”)
Once we have prepared the letter, trace his silhouette on the back of the plywood where are the pallet planks. With the help of a hand saw we will cut the silhouette that we have drawn.
Then we will create a frame with the pallet planks as we show you in the picture. We will make an angular cut on the corners of the planks, that are going to build the frame of the “W”. Post these planks with the wooden glue or some nails.
And presto, now you have your letter made of pallets to decorate the hall. Remember that you can choose the font that you like and paint it in your favorite colors. We have used the original wood color for a more rustic and casual style.
