Today I want to show you how to make a very special planter, obviously you can build the gardener also with outdoor treated wood, or directly oak wood, so I am sure it will bear better the attack of the sun and the time, but if you don’t want to spend a lot of money I suggest you to do it with your wooden pallets.
This pallet planter took me about 90 minutes to build it: the design is so simple, and the required level of DIY carpentry skills comparing it with other pallet furniture is so low, the only tools you are going to need are: a set-squad, a pencil, a drill, a saw, achisel and Sandpaper.
I cut the boards of a pallet that were of 93.6″ long, the boards were 3.5″ wide and 0.7″ thick and I cut them until 74.1″ for doing the base, so the interior dimensions were of 70.2″ x 70.2″
The slots at the ends of the base are positioned 2.5″ from the end for each board, and the measure is the same for all. The slots that are more in the inside of the board are located 7.5″ from the exterior slots, in the photos you are going to see it much better. These dimensions are repeated in all the planks of the planter, however you are able to modify them to get change the final design. Follow the next images to know exactly how to make these slots:
Only the slots that are ubicated in the corners of the bottom frame must have the depth of half the width of the table, we have to do this into the 4 sides in order to stabilise firmly the structure on the ground, and don’t leave any unstable corners. The rest of the slots are made of 1/3 the width of the board.
Remember that the slot of 1/2 the width of the board is ubicated 2.5″ from the edge of the board, and the interior slot of 1/3 the width of the board is ubicated 10″ inside from the edge.
It is important to remember that in all the slots we are working from the exterior towards the inside, so then you are going to keep the dimensions and slots always in the right place.
