Hi everybody, in DIY Pallet Furniture we have already seen some wooden desks, but no one made exclusively for using it with your PC (computer). Today we present you one more of the many furniture pallets that can be performed: a classic PC desktop.

We are going to need: 1 large pallet, mine was of 7.9 feet long, a screwdriver and a drill, screews of different sizes, a saw, varnish ( you must choose the type of varnish that best suits to your needs), a drill to encase the screw heads into the wood (it’s not essential but recommended), sandpaper and power sander, glue, a broom and a dustpan

I luckily had a special bar to remove my house floor, and it was ideal for dismantling the pallets, in any case if you are unsure about how to do it I recommend you to visit this link.

You should also get rid of the old nails nailed into the pallet.

Here I forgot to take some pictures. Fortunately my carpentry skills can be compared to a monkey, so you can see how I built it, all are screws are simple techniques.

First decide the height and the width that is going to have the desktop.

I cut the widest parts of the pallet to create 6 legs and 6 reinforcements, and then I built three identical sections as I show you in the picture. Cut the length depending on the wood that you have available and the desired dimensions, remember to always plan your moves.

For joining all the pieces I just drilled them to put later the screws.

After doing all of this check which is the width that you need for your PC, obviously if you want to put a shelf for the PC, you can do diferent alternatives such as some shelves under the desk. If you are building one, you should put 2 brackets together at a distance determined by the width that you want for the shelf, then you’ll have to join them with some woods crossed, you’ll need the help of a friend or a wall to do so. You also have to make the surface of the desk, which I have no photos, for doing it you’ll need too the help of a friend or a wall to place along the boards using the supports, under it you can also place some crossed boards to reinforce the structure as it’s shown in the photo. Remember to keep the boards properly close between them.

You can start doing the stand for the PC or the table desktop, as you wish…

Because my boards were too long, 7.9 feet, I cut them in half to have a 6.5 feet desk. and also save a lot of wood, but the dimensions depend on what you really want and how much wood you have.

I used a drill to encase the screw heads into the desk surface, then I did the same with the PC shelf.

To make the desk structurally stronger, I added a diagonal wood in the back of the desk, and also an horizontal board.

The next step is to mix the wood glue with the splinters leftover to obtain a filling paste, that will very usefull to cover the holes on the table surface. It is a very economical way to vastly improve the end of the table. I did it two times, once at this stage and one more at the end when the first layer was dried.

Once the holes have already been covered, use a power sander to sand the surface of the table. Concentrate your effort on your desktop surface. Do a first pass with the power sander and a second one with a smooth sandpaper and give it a nice rustic feel.

For all these works do not forget to wear a mask, when you have finished clean it with water.

Finally we will give to the desktop 2 layers of varnish, and then a smooth sand with a sand paper of 240° around the corners, after a final thin layer.

Rustic and practical, looks great and with a minimal cost and a use of materials.
