Sustainable Blacksburg participated in a competition called “Broadening the pallet” centered on the idea of reusing the wooden pallets. It was decided to build a table for the balcony using 4 wooden pallets. Maybe you have seen this beautiful design in some other tables in a garden store, but certainly never has been applied to the wooden pallets.

First you must do the design the table, having a good design from the start can help us a lot of and save some important material, in this case you can use the same that we have used, this hexagonal table with 2 stools of the same design.

The next step is to deconstruct the pallets, cut the nails with a radial saw will do things much easier, but if you don’t have one I recommend you to follow this guide on how to disassemble a wooden pallet easily: How to disassemble the wooden pallets?

Once we have the slats of the pallets it’s time to cut them, in order to do the many angles of 60 ° we have used a template for the saw as you can see in the photo, so we ensure that all the parts will fit well. Also we’ll polish and sand all the sides.

To fix the pieces we use an automatic hammer. First we set the 3 sections supported, as you can see in the picture above, which later will be attached to the central pillar. The rest of the table will then later be fixed to this 3 suspended parts. 2 of the pallet crossbeams were placed in a cross to work as the legs of the table.

Before varnishing it we will fill all the remaining holes in the wood, the holes left from the nails, with wood filler paste, then we’ll varnish it. We use two different varnishes to give a nice different end, one darker and one transparent, so the table has a more colorful design and still has a natural look.
