How to make a vintage coffee table

Today we want to show you a vintage coffee table made with pallets and a very retro touch, it seems an antique table. Next, we show you the step by step construction process with the help of some pictures. We are convinced that with a little bit of skill we’ll be able to make it without any problems!

First, we recommend you to have a clean and ordered space to work, without any element that can disturb you during the creation procss. A good site can be a corner in the garden or our garage. Then, we are going to take the two Euro pallets and paint them with a special protective wooden paint. With this product you can avoid greatly the pass of the time, and a lot of thinks that can attack the wood.

Once the protective paint is dry, we’ll sand it in order to obtain a smooth surface .

Then we’ll varnish the two pallets and wait until they get dry, I covered them with a plastic because it started to rain.

This is the end result, as you can see in the picture. We have added also a safety glass on the top of the pallets , you can fix it with some brackets in order to prevent it from moving .
As we have mentioned at the beginning of the post, to give it a more retro touch, we thought of adding to the table some rustic drawers with handles and a decorative nails. You can find them in your nearest carpentry store, or take advantage of some old hardware that you no long use.

First, we are going to measure the height, the width, and the depth of the space to cut the pallet planks that are going to be used to  build the drawer box. Then, we are going to apply a layer of varnish with the same tonality that we have used previously on the table.

As you can see in the picture, we have painted the nails in black, later we are going to nail them on the table. They simulate that its functionality is to secure the frame of the pallet furniture, however the intention is only aesthetic. On the last picture you can see the nails arround the furniture.

Then we will set the knobs, we can fix them with glue.

And here is the result of the vintage table, with a little of imagination and some details, it’s able to transport us a few years ago, while also being a very contemporary design.
